INDIANA CHAPTER

Captain W. Buz Brown has dedicated nearly four decades to law enforcement and public service. Since joining the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 2019, he has served as Internal Affairs Commander within the Office of the Sheriff and has supported the agency’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. His career began with the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department and later included 29 years of distinguished service with the United States Marshals Service.

During his federal career, Captain Brown held numerous leadership positions involving fugitive apprehension, judicial security, criminal investigations, internal affairs, prisoner operations, and compliance review. He also served on several specialized federal task forces and became the first African American in the U.S. Marshals Service to serve as Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal in the State of Indiana. His service and leadership earned him recognition including the 2010 USMS Director’s EEO Award.

An Indianapolis native, Captain Brown studied Criminal Justice at Anderson University and was an accomplished collegiate athlete. He remains committed to leadership, fairness, teamwork, and inclusion and is a Lifetime Member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).
